HISTORY OF RAYBURN COUNTRY
Rayburn Country was created in 1965 on a 1,000 acre track of timberland adjoining the new Sam Rayburn Reservoir. The development included a marina, swimming pool and country club with the first nine holes of the golf course constructed in 1968.
The 70's brought the expansion of Rayburn Country with an additional 3,500 acres. Construction on the second nine holes done in 1972, and the last nine was constructed in 1979. A new clubhouse, swimming pool, tennis courts and sports core were also constructed closer to the golf course.
While the 1980's brought the property owners group, Rayburn Country Association assuming ownership of the Country Club. The Association also assumed control of the swimming pool, tennis courts, and the sports core as well as the roads and water system. The water system was transferred to the new Rayburn Municipal Utility District.
The Lodge and Reception Center were purchased in the 90's making Sam Rayburn a complete resort area, bringing guests and residents alike to visit and socialize for business or pleasure with their friends and family.
By the year 2000, Rayburn Country has grown to nearly 400 homes constructed by various property owners, who enjoy the tranquil peacefulness of the generous lakes and tall pines that stretch for miles.
