EXPERIENCE FISHING
Lake Sam Rayburn was created by impounding the Angelina River, creating a 114,000 acre lake that has a natural shoreline and many great fishing holes. The southern end of Lake Sam Rayburn was timbered prior to impounding and the northern end was partially timbered which has created a great fishing habitat. Should you wish to explore the other area lakes (Toledo Bend, B.A. Steinhagen) they are a short drive away. This gives the "lakes area" 336,200 acres of water, and almost 2000 miles of shoreline for you to enjoy.
Whether you just want to enjoy fishing by yourself, with your family, or join in one of the many tournaments (formal or informal) there is lots of lake for you to explore. The Walter Umphrey Family Pavilion opened 2004 on the Southeast corner of the lake, providing a great place to host tournaments or weddings.
Announced in the Spring of 2005, the new Texas Park and Wildlife fish hatchery will be located at Sam Rayburn. This will replace the older Jasper Fish Hatchery, and will be located on the Southeast corner of the lake.
Rayburn Country Resort is located on the Southeastern corner of Lake Sam Rayburn, just minutes from the pavilion and soon to be constructed fish hatchery. Rayburn Country Resort Lodge is a great place to call home while fishing on Lake Sam Rayburn, and is just a few minutes from boat ramps, and has plug in's available to keep your batteries fully charged.
